Ethel Mae Stanton Buckhanon was born on June 26, 1956, in Shaw, Mississippi to the late John and Annie B. Stanton. She transitioned from her earthly life to eternal life on December 26, 2023.
Ethel gave her life to Christ at an early age at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Shaw, MS under the leadership of Reverend C.W. Ray. She was baptized in 1985 and served faithfully as a member of the Usher Board and served as its President for several years.
She was educated in the Shaw School District. Ethel was employed as a Correctional Officer with the Mississippi Department of Corrections for over 16 years until her retirement.
Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, John and Annie B. Stanton, and her brothers Willie Stanton, Robert Stanton, and Jimmie Stanton.
She leaves to cherish her memories: One daughter, Chaka Stanton of Indianola, MS; Three (3) sons, Santari Stanton of Cedar Hill, TX; Antonio (Sharon) Stanton of Indianola, MS; and LaDarius Buckhanon of Houston, TX.
Six (6) grandchildren, Santari Stanton Jr. of Fort Worth, TX; LeKia McRoy, Dakiarus Clark, Kenzavius Stanton, all of Indianola, MS; Tornesia Stanton of Louisville, KY; and Isaiah Stanton of Arlington, TX. One (1) great grandchild, Amaira Stanton of Fort Worth, TX.
Seven (7) sisters, Easter Stanton, Mildred Carter (Cleotha), and Rosie Gayles, all of Shaw, Mississippi; Jo Ann Stanton of Waxahachie, TX; Mary Stanton of Cedar Hill, TX; Carolyn Stanton of Cleveland, MS; and Bertha Allen of St. Louis, MO. Seven (7) brothers, Joseph Jenkins (Linda) of Saginaw, MI; Jessie Jenkins (Emma) of Lake Butler, FL; John (Louvenia) Stanton, Jr of Proctor, AR; Leroy Stanton of Boyle, MS; Timmie and Dannie Stanton, both of Cleveland, MS; and Leon Stanton of Benoit, MS; an aunt, Dela Dixon of Cleveland, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
