Lee "Junior" Johnson, born on January 28, 1944, was the oldest of six children born to the late Lee Johnson Jr. and Ida B. Johnson in Shaw, MS. His father, Lee Johnson Jr., and his brother, Lonnie Johnson, preceded him in death.
On November 28, 1991, Lee married Deloris Jones Johnson, the love of his life, partner, and friend.
Lee was a faithful member of United Baptist Church until his death. He served as the Finance Committee Chairman at the church and also served as Secretary of the United Family Life Center Board of Directors.
Lee began his career as a truck driver and founded Johnson Trucking Company in 1971. He was Vice President of the Delta Trucking Association from 1976 to 1980. He later founded Johnson Construction Company and under his leadership, he completed many improvements and beautification projects at Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, MS. His work can also be seen throughout the Mississippi Delta. He was a member of the Mississippi Minority & Small Business Development Association and the Black Farmers Association for many years. In addition, he was an active employee of the Bolivar County Head Start Center.
Lee was known for his strong work ethic, problem solving skills, his willingness to help others, his reliability, innovative skills, and his willingness to listen and to give
advice.
Lee is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years: Deloris Johnson, his loving mother: Mrs. Ida B. Johnson, four daughters: Lametra and Tawanya Johnson both of Roswell, GA, Lisa (Andrew) Hutchinson of Jacksonville, FL, and Tameka (Michael) Johnson of Jackson, MS.
He is also survived by one sister: Ida (Gene) Fowler of Greenville, MS; and three brothers: Eddie Johnson of Shaw, MS., Walter (Ann) Johnson of Louisville, KY., and Willie Johnson of Cleveland, MS; sister in law: Catherine Jones of Benoit, MS; brothers in law: A.D. (Hattie) Jones of Chicago, IL, Wendell (Mittie) Jones of Kansas City, MO, and Audie (Sandra) Jones of Valdosta, GA; Grandchildren: Nyla, Khadari, Khadeja, Khalea, Khadarius, Khalyse, Khylan, Monta, Kenta, Andrew Jr., Tanjanik, Jeremiah, Ayesia, and Georgian; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Lee will be remembered for his unwavering commitment, love, and devotion to his family, friends, church family, and his community.
