Mercedes "Mercie D" Slaughter Simpson, age 73, of Merigold, Mississippi, entered
eternal rest on March 9, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. She was born on May 11, 1952, to the late Booker T. and Ardean Slaughter.

Mercedes was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a faithful and active member of Bright Star Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in the Women's Ministry and the Church Kitchen Ministry. Her life was marked by service, love, and dedication to both her family and her church.
