Raymond Murry was born December 5, 1949, to the union of Ardie Lee Murry and Essie Mae Temple in Drew, MS. He was the youngest of four children. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret Jean Walter, brothers Ardie Murry, Jr and James Henry Murry. Raymond made his transition to be with the Lord on Friday, April 12, 2024.
Raymond accepted Christ at an early age and joined Christian Union Missionary Baptist Church in Drew, Ms. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Climmie Johnson in 1968. He was the father of Bertram, Titus, Elmonda, Letoni, and Rameki. He later joined United Baptist Church when his parents moved to Cleveland, MS in 1972.
Raymond was educated in the Sunflower County Public School System and graduated in 1968 from Hunter High in Drew, MS. During his early adult life, Raymond enlisted in the United States Army and served in Berlin, Germany. After service to his country, he returned to Cleveland for the next chapter of his life. He earned his BS in Psychology from Mississippi Valley State University. He was employed by Baxter Healthcare, Parchman Mississippi State Penitentiary, and as a counselor in the judicial system.
Raymond enjoyed having a good time with family and friends. He could often be found playing Dominos with his children and listening to Blues music. The greatest joy experienced was time with his grandchildren and great grandchild. He was supportive of their endeavors by attending games and picking them up from school. He would often share his knowledge and wisdom regarding sports and often spoke of his time as an athlete in high school.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children Bertram Murry of Southaven MS; Elmonda (Alicia) Murry of Southaven MS, Dr. Letoni (Nichele) Murry of Nashville TN, and Rameki Murry of Southaven MS; six grandchildren Tedric Campbell, Jr., Elmonda Murry, Jr., Taylor Murry, Alexis Murry, Akyah Murry, Letoni Murry, II; one great-grandchild Jaisen Campbell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
