Reflection of Life

Talmadge Davis, Jr., affectionately known as "TD" was born on September 29, 1947, to the late Talmadge Davis, Sr and Irene Chatman Davis in Boyle, Mississippi. TD confessed Christ at an early age, was baptized, and became a member of St. Peter's Rock Baptist Church under the
leadership of Rev. L.L. Laws. He was a faithful member for more than fifty (50) years as he served as Chair of the Deacon Board, member of the Finance Committee, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher of the young adult class, and sang with the male chorus until his death.

TD was a 1966 graduate of East Side High School. He furthered his education earning an Associate's degree from Coahoma Junior College of Clarksdale, Mississippi, Bachelor of Arts – History from Delta State College, and a Master of Education degree from Delta State University.  After graduation, TD was offered a student teaching position at Rosedale Junior High School and afterwards landed his first teaching job at Ruleville High School in Ruleville, Mississippi. He began his journey of teaching Social Studies to grades 9th
through 12th in the Leland School
District for thirty-eight (38) years until he retired in 2010.

TD was a great public speaker and was always called upon to speak at certain engagements. One of his favorite speeches was "I have a dream" by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  He played a vital role during the segregation period, along with many other students during the 1960s and 1970s.
They were attending Delta State Teachers College during that time and these individuals, along with TD, broke barriers for all African American students who were attending Delta State Teachers College by making their voices heard and making sure they were afforded a quality education. They were known as the true "Pioneers of the Struggle".

TD's accomplishments and recognition received through the years were immeasurable! He was a man of God, and he carried himself with grace and with his unbelievable faith. He truly loved the
Lord with all his heart, mind and being. He fought the good fight, he finished the race, and he kept the faith.

2 Timothy 4:7: "I have fought the good fight,
I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
